More Room for Fish

Vigor Marine in Tacoma, Washington recently completed a major refit of Trident Seafood’s F/V Pacific Ram. The aim was to expand the capacity of the fish hold of the 82-foot by 27-foot vessel by sponsoning the vessel and adding five feet to either side.
After the vessel had been pulled up on the yard’s 500-ton marine railway, Vigor’s team began fabricating a new front end in place while simultaneously fabricating a bulbous bow in the steel shop.
As soon as the font end was rebuilt on the ways the bulbous bow was hung, and the sponsoning was done in place.
After final piping was put in place the newly-sponsoned Pacific Ram launched in mid-September and delivered later in the month, in time for B season. The Pacific Ram’s capacity was increased by 35 percent, but length, depth and crew complement remained unchanged and the vessel remains under 200 GRT.
